There's a difference between saying "OMG, your avatar looks like #$%#" and "YOU MF NOOB". Don't tell me you are RPing so much and insult in-game character - after all, you keep claiming that it's just a game.

Anybody can take anything too far. (Cosplay anyone *shudder*). But when someone says that they "have the right" to do something that goes against any sort of moral bearing that most people should have, is beyond most rational mature people.

If an NPC seriously insults you, something is wrong with the NPC. And no you cant sue the poeple that made guild wars. You are the person who paid for the license to use the game. They dont need you around. If you dont like it, then you can just stop playing. You cant legally sue them anyways, it's their game and they can make it however they like. I'm sure they would be reasonable and if they see it the way you do, they will change what the NPC says.
EDIT: nevermind, Take back all of what I said up there. The NPC can insult your character all he wants. The different is that the players arent insulting the other players characters. The insult is aimed at the other player. Not the character. You missed the point of many posts once again.

The difference between a NPC insulting you and a human being with a free insulting you is rather obvious, isn't it?
Seriously Hell Raiser, I think you have a good shot at the presidency of the United States. Keep up the good work.

The npc insults and i insult. We both coexist in a online world. We all cant be how you want us to be. Of course their will be jerks more expeccially in a online world then anything else. Its how its gonna be and its how it will be you just have to accept it.

I love the way you twist everything to suit your arguements hellraiser. i doubt anything an npc says to you can or should be considered an insult. We are talking about doing what you know to be morally right. You may take balthazar be damned to be an insult it doesn't mean ncsoft owes you a huge settlement. you know what is right and what is wrong and if you are telling me that you feel as though people should take things more lightly then i agree with you one hundered percent. if you are however saying that you condone such behaviour and feel that it is right to continue doing so, then i disagree. there is only so much anyone can do and so i believe in this simple rule. As long as you do not commit what you know to be a deliberate cruelty regardless of the bearing you feel it should have then you are doing the right thing. People who get sued for doing something that had a detrimental effect that they themselves did not deliberately inflict are having just as great a crime comitted against them.

I have yet to see NPC insult a *player*, not player-created character in game. Unless it is intended in funny way, and not "hey, noob". (but even then, these are very rare cases, since they don't really fit in RP sense of RPGs)

My vote is you for the following reasons:
1.) Your post was pointless and
2.) Your post was patronising
On a lighter note, does anyone think a Role Playing zone and a.. er, Non Role Playing Zone would help this situation at all. They've created a lot of new zones (Language speaking etc) but seeing as Role Players don't count it as real life then they wouldn't have the need for chatter. A simple "Lfg English group" would suffice.
Think something like this would be put into play anytime?
Would surely seperate those who wish to talk as themselves and those who count their chars and everyone elses as completely made up characters.
---
Edit: Just a mini question Hellraiser seeing as you're still here. Er, why do you want to insult anyone to begin with? Just wondering...

Okay. Just to add in my two cents about the whole matter. Yes. Guild Wars -is- just a game, that people should not take seriously. But every character on here besides the NPCs are controlled by real people. If you insult someone's character, you're insulting the person controlling the character, unless both parties are role playing. Honestly, in order to insult someone, you have to have come up with the insult in real life, correct?

Yet earlier you said that when someone is called a noob, then their character is the noob and not the person controlling it, and now you're saying that if you're called a noob, then you, as a person in real life, will try to improve their skills...yeah. Are you just contradicting yourself?

Or if someone calls you a noob, and it's not a charr, but you're not sure who it is, but you're pretty sure you didn't call yourself a noob, but you're not absolutely sure, what then?

OMGOMGOMG HELLRAISER, you made me ACTUALLY LAUGH when I read one of ur earlier posts....HAHA, you said "GUILD WARS is not real life, its a bunch of pixels." Omg dude, like, you should have heard me, I laughed VERY loud, and there is no one else in this room with me...But about all the arguing, man o man guys relax, its a game, if you don't like to be made fun of (for your in-game character or whatever btw, not even YOU PERSONALLY), then
just
don't
play
the
game....
its a freakin game, I hope "pixels" as Hellraiser put it, don't actually affend you, man, they are just colors on the screen, if someone offends you in real life, punch him in the face.
A GAME DOES NOT DEPICT HOW YOU ARE IN REAL LIFE
I STAND BY HELLRAISER, you guys are quite full of your "pride" and "dignity."
just get a job and a family, worry about them, not a freakin video game..
HELLRAISER ROCK ON
oh btw, I'm a nice person in real life, I just get a kick out of how you people try to form who you are in a bunch of networks, micro chips, and ... yes, pixels..

There is a difference with the terms noob and newbie. A green horn would be considered newbie. A neophyte in other words. You should know these things. He didnt call you a green horn by the way. He called your character a green horn. Stop trying to connect dots that arent there.

I don't know, Eyahl, about the RP Zones and Non-RP Zones. I would suggest that GW really is NOT a true RPG. That said, perhaps if they added areas with a seriously heavy PLOTline rather than QUESTline, maybe it would work.
People who want to RP don't generally do it for the reward at the end of the session. They do it for the fun of playing someone else--whether it's someone much like their true-life personna or someone completely foreign to RL.
So if this were to work, I would think that heavy story-driven areas with smaller rewards might work to attract RPers and leave the quest-driven areas to the...er... other crowd.
